Regulate Smarter Launches New Video Series: “Smarter Regulation Now”

As Regulate Smarter continues our important work seeking to modernize the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approach to nicotine products, the Coalition is launching a multi-part video series called “Smarter Regulation Now.” Featuring behind-the-scenes testimonials from expert panelists at a recent Coalition-sponsored event in Washington, D.C., the first installment features Jon Adler, President of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association Foundation.

With decades of law enforcement experience, including serving as Director of the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Adler highlights the high-stakes challenges posed by the flood of illicit nicotine products in the U.S. market and makes the case for the urgent need for stronger action.

Adler notes not only the national security threat of the illicit market, but also that they are “targeting our children,” which he labels a “major problem.”

Adler’s insights underscore why meaningful enforcement must be paired with a streamlined authorization process to protect public health and restore integrity to the regulated marketplace.

JON ADLER: The main thrust of the problem is that illicit product, primarily coming from China orchestrated by the CCP, is inundating our country and the product, when we say illicit meaning it has not been reviewed, it hasn't been approved or authorized by the FDA. So those using the product have no idea what's in it. This can cause obviously health problems. They're targeting our children. That is a major problem. They're also adaptable to Internet access which can cause a security problem if they corrupt our internet-based systems. And then there's also the connection with the cartel and money laundering. And that in and of itself is a problem as well. And God forbid they get the right people who access to sensitive information and the next thing you know, they have information that could ultimately jeopardize our homeland.
