Welcome to the next installment of Regulate Smarter’s “Member Spotlight” series, a weekly segment where we go in depth on our broad group of coalition members that include regulated manufacturers, retailers and distributors.

Up this week is the Energy Marketers of America (EMA), a national trade association based in Washington, D.C. that serves as a federation of 48 state and regional trade associations. EMA member companies supply 80 percent of all finished motor and heating fuel products sold nationwide including gasoline, diesel fuel, heating fuels and biofuels such as renewable diesel and biodiesel.  As such, EMA represents many of the tens of thousands of small businesses nationwide that, in addition to providing fuel, include convenience store outlets that derive a substantial percentage of their revenues from tobacco products.

EMA has been vocal on multiple priorities of importance to our coalition. First, they have urged the White House to ramp up their enforcement efforts and crack down on the sale of illegal vape products from China in the illicit marketplace.

EMA has also urged the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to publish a clear and comprehensive list of electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) to eliminate confusion and uncertainty in the marketplace.

Finally, EMA has pushed for a Tobacco Harm Reduction policy aimed at preventing underage use, supports adult choice, and maintains a legal, regulated market.

Such an approach would not only build on the success of responsible retailers seeking to follow the law, it would also protect public health without destabilizing economies or fostering criminal activity.

We’re thrilled to have EMA in the Coalition for Smarter Regulation of Nicotine. Their voice will be instrumental in our efforts to push the FDA to establish a regulatory framework that provides clear information and rigorously enforces the law against bad actors.

This spotlight on the Energy Marketers of America is truly insightful! It’s impressive how the organization supports such a large network of fuel distributors and retailers across the country. As someone interested in the energy and fuel industry, I really appreciate how associations like EMA help small businesses, including diesel suppliers, adapt to evolving regulations and market demands. Their efforts to promote fair trade and sustainability play a crucial role in keeping the energy supply chain strong and efficient.
